So it's the end of March and the cherry blossoms are about to bloom and I realize that I have completely neglected blogging in the past few months. Gomen (sorry). Things have been busy and I have made a vow to post more frequently in the coming months as my time in Japan is likely coming to a close. I began this post of fall color back in November, so I thought I should finish it up before fast forwarding the blog to spring.

We spent a day in late November exploring the temples around Kita Kamakura, starting at Engakuji, which was founded in 1282. I believe that the gate (pictured below) is from the 18th century. The following photos are from the temple grounds.

We also visited Kenchoji, founded in 1253.

The large tree to the left dates from the founding of the temple.

Behind Kenchoji (a Buddhist temple) is a Shinto shrine.

From the top of the hill on which the shrine sits there is a view of the ocean and also of Mt. Fuji, but when we visited dusk was approaching, so Fuji was not very clear.

Purple sweet potato ice cream is a special Kamakura flavor, so what better way to finish the day? The flavor is quite sweet and rich, quite tasty!
