This weekend we had a virtual visitor from the U.S., Flat Stanley. My cousin made Stanley in his first grade class and sent him to us so he and his classmates can learn more about Japan. Stanley spent a day at Ono High School, ate Okonomiyaki, visited with our friends, and went to see sumo with us on Sunday. He will return to the States this week. On Saturday we took him to Kobe, where we visited Ikuta Shrine. Above is Stan at the shrine gate, below he and I are checking out the main hall of the shrine.

Stan got his fortune, it cost two hundred yen (about $2).

His fortune was very good! Here he is holding it in his hand.

If he had a bad fortune, he would have tied it up at the shrine, like those seen below.

We next went to have a snack and some tea in Sannomiya (central Kobe).

We did some shopping in Sannomiya as well. At Tokyu Hands Stan learned about the types of lunches that Japanese kids take to school.
