The New Years holiday in Japan is one of family and tradition- in many ways it parallels Christmas in the U.S., whereas Christmas here is a day to celebrate with friends or on a date. One thing I love about the holiday is the decor- pine, bamboo, straw rope, and paper are used to create wreaths that adorn people's homes, business entrances, restaurants, and cars. Here is a sampling from around our neighborhood.
This one was on the gate to a bridge construction site nearby.
A car in the neighborhood.
Outside a local restaurant- I love the way this one is a combination of decorations on one big tree. Unusual, but fun.
Happy New Year!
